Story by Hannah – On 4th of February 2022 I went to Sacred Heart Primary School to visit my nephew Kipchumba and niece Cheptoo, as it’s visiting day. They are preparing for their final exams and on this day it was special for parents to wish their children good luck in their final preparation. Every parent should bring their child a geometrical set, as it was needed for the exams.
After an uplifting church service, happy songs and motivational speeches parents went to bring the bought items to their children and would be allowed to go home again, as their children remain in school to continue to work hard to achieve good results.
It came to my attention that one girl was left without the geometrical set. There was nobody to visit her that day nor to bring her the item she needed so much for the exams.
I felt bad about it. All students got what was needed, but only one girl didn’t get it? I found out it would only cost 600KSH (around 5 euro’s) for her to get what was necessary. Without hesitation I organised this with the help of my sister inlaw Shillah and Jelimo could breathe a sigh of relief. She got her geometrical set, but she didn’t receive a relative to visit her at school. And that last part was actually the worst part for me. On a special day like this, a day that every child was looking forward to, but nobody showed up.
After Jelimo passed her exams and finished primary school, it was time to find a good secondary school for her to continue her educational journey. After inquiring through my sister inlaw how Jelimo is doing, I realised the situation of Jelimo became worse. After she finished primary school, she didn’t get the opportunity to join highschool.
She is being raised by her brother and sister inlaw, as her father passed away and her mother is no longer there to look after her children.
Here you can find a letter she wrote in January 2022, written to her late father.
Through the Foundation Sisters For Sisters, we are able to pay the schoolfees of her school, as well as uniforms, books and other necessary things the needs to go to school.
